During this 6-week course you will be taught a variety of skills to enable you to throw with confidence. This will include: the preparation of clay, coning, centering, making a variety of shapes including lids and handles, turning and glazing. This course will also teach you how to recycling/repurposing clay.

During this course you will:

Week 1 – be given a full induction into The Pottery. Be taught how to wedge and recycle your clay. Shown how to cone, centre and form using the potter’s wheel. Week 1 is all about building muscle memory. You will cut the majority of your pieces in half to use as a learning tool. It will also allow your tutors to assess your current skills and create a bespoke learning schedule for you.

At the end of the session you will keep your favourite piece for next weeks lesson on turning.

Week 2 – be shown how to ‘turn/fettle your work from the previous week. You will each have an in depth discussion with a tutor to discuss your goals and how we can facilitate a bespoke achievable learning plan.

The aim of this session is to continue to build on skills learnt from week 1. You will each

Week 3 – Practice practice and more practicing. You will continue to build muscle memory working towards your own goals to enable you to perfect a shape of your choice.

Week 4, 5 and 6 – You will have the opportunity to work on an individual project to hone skills learnt so far.

There is no glazing week attributed to this course. However we appreciate that you may want to keep work that you have made. You may keep up to 8 peices which The Pottery will glaze for you and have ready for collection within 3 weeks.

There will be a maximum of 6 people on this course and 2 tutors. Each person will be given their own dedicated wheel and plenty of table space for the duration of the class.

However if you change your mind for any reason you can gift the whole course to a third party (this does not include ClayStation sessions or individual sessions).
