A 6-week course teaching clay preparation, coning, centering, wheel-throwing various forms (including lids and handles), trimming, and glazing. You'll also learn recycling/repurposing leftover clay, applying oxides, slips, and underglazes, and using The Pottery’s full range of glazes and effects.During t

his course you will:

Week 1 – Full induction. Learn wedging, recycling clay, and basic wheel work: coning, centering, forming. Practice controlling clay. Choose up to 3 pieces to keep.

Week 2 – Learn turning/fettling last week’s work, and how to make handles, spouts, and feet. Learn slip decoration and sgraffito.

Week 3 – Practice by making two identical pieces, focusing on using your clay efficiently. You may make more while practicing but select only two to keep.

Weeks 4–5 – Refine shape and size, and develop an individual project. By the end of week 4 create up to three related vessels to be fettled in week 5. Demonstrations on handles and spouts as needed.

Week 6 - Introduction to glazing

Class size max 6. Each student has a wheel and table space. Expect to make up to 6 pieces in the course. Extra pieces may incur a small fee for glazing and firing.
