Lets Make Mugs

Join us for a three-evening adventure making wheel-thrown mugs, 6pm - 9pm

Tuesday 28th July — Demonstrations and guided practice to help you refine forming on the potter’s wheel. You’ll learn to recycle your clay so you can keep practising until you achieve the mug shape you want, with individual feedback to build confidence.

Wednesday 29th July — Focus on turning to finish mugs to a professional standard, plus handle pulling and exploring texture. You’ll develop clean foot rings and joins, practise secure handle attachment, and experiment with surface marks to personalise your pieces.

Thursday 30th July — It’s all about colour and refinement. Using slips and underglazes you will explore surface decoration and apply these techniques thoughtfully to your mugs, learning colour placement and application methods that suit your style.

Classes are limited to six people; each person has a wheel. At the end of the sessions you may choose up to four mugs to be fired; any extra mugs may incur a small charge to help cover materials and electricity.

Finished pieces are ready for collection from the pottery in about three weeks, or can be posted for an additional fee.

This course is ideal (but not essential) if you have had some throwing experience.
